7 + 1 Awards For You

OK, here we go…. as some of you know, this is my FIRST! EVER! AWARD! (thanks, Kristin!), and part of the reason that I accepted it is that I now get to pass it on to 7 bloggers of my choice. I LOVE spreading the love, y’all.

Here (in no particular order) are my choices for blogs that are funny, creative, smart, well-written and well worth checking out:

1. Clean Shavings – Mary describes herself as ‘an abnormally sarcastic 40-something know-it-all’. This about sums her up, except she is also a Mom of two, who – as she writes – “also happen to have between them ADHD, bipolar disorder and general anxiety disorder”. Her life is busy, hectic and bursting with warmth and humour. ALSO – she has sent me an emergency care package with Rice Krispies and so she gets hundreds of mwahs from me.

2. Deciding For Life – Joy is a single woman, who finds herself pregnant by a man she broke up with before she found out she was pregnant. Her decision to carry the baby to term and then put him up for adoption is heart-wrenching, but it is the best one for her, the father and the baby. She writes about her journey through pregnancy, to choosing and meeting the birth parents, and will eventually share the birth and handing her baby over to his parents – and she does this in the hope of sharing what adoption is really all about.

3. Bad Mommy Moments – CK’s manifesto says it all: ‘A place to celebrate the humor, struggles, and moments of motherhood that SUCK. Because it’s often after our worst moments that we realize how lucky we are.’ She is honest, she is controversial, she says what some of us hardly dare to think. But she adores her kids and she never lets us forget that, either. When you’re having a Moment (like, “Mommy is having a MOMENT kid!”) go see CK. She’ll totally empathise.

4. Finslippy - Alice is a very successful published author, short story writer, and kind of celeb-Mommy-blogger who has appeared on TV and stuff. But before you puke up with jealousy, hear this: she is damn funny. Her blog is so entertaining and her kids are always up to something that tickles me to death. This is the perfect place to crack a smile over your morning coffee.

5. Everydaystranger – Shannon is (like me) an expat, although she is American and living in England (where they still speak English – lucky her!). Mom to twins, engaged to Alistair, her life has been a journey through divorce, IVF, employment and moving woes and now twin tantrums. Through it all, she has retained her humour and sanity (though she does write in great detail about her therapy and recovery… makes for some hard reading, but its brutal honesty has its own grace).

6. Kass.Gilbert – Kassi has four kids, ranging from 17 years to about one year, so she is dealing with: babyhood, a pre-teen, a teen, and an almost-adult… all at the same time. Yes, really. She is also putting a bid on a house. Just because – you know – her life is not packed with enough stuff. Go on over and send her some love, and make sure to drool over baby Henry’s photos, especially ones where he’s wearing a hat. Too cute.

7. Design Mom – I call this my blog porn (no, not really. Well, kind of). Gabrielle is a Mom of five (almost six) kids and she is also a fabulous designer. As such, her blog is bursting with gorgeous, gorgeous stuff: jewelry, furniture, clothes, handbags, etc. Her hand-printed wallpaper post made me ache with longing… she highlights such amazing stuff. It’s my daily dose of decor, and it really inspires me to make my own home more beautiful.

And I know (I know!) that really, I’m to stop at seven awards, but I figure that Kristin got a bit fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants, so I’ll push the envelope a bit too (oooh, daring!) and give out one more award, to:

8. Holy Mackerel - Mary cracks. Me. Up. Especially because she has waged an all-out garbage war on the neighbours, calls Mr. Handsome (her husband) on his crap and is generally sarcastic and irreverant about everything from Octomom to itchy nipples to firefighters. Or maybe that’s just being honest? Well, whatever. Oh, and bonus! Gowan is a friend of hers on Facebook (listen you: if you don’t know who Gowan is, you are not Canadian).

So… there they are! There are so many many more I want to mention, and just can’t. But if there’s a next time for me, and I get to choose some more awards to hand around, I have my list all ready. Now, go check some of these ladies out… you’ll be very glad you did. And ladies? Grab that logo and stick it on your own sites… and then choose seven of your favourite blogs and link to them, OK?

Spread the lurve!

BTW: I know I’m to write seven cool and amazing and interesting things about myself, and I’ll get to that tomorrow. It’s actually much harder than I thought it would be. Apparently, I am not cool. Or amazing. Or interesting. Huh.

Yay you!! Personally, I think you should have one of *each* award. You know, take one each month. ;-)

I going to come back and check out each of these sites when I’m not on the clock so to speak. They look like a lot of fun.

  5. Neil says:

No love for your brothers work? I realize my target audience is slightly different but…..
I do recall being a PUBLISHED writer in the Warsaw Insider. I think it was a tale about the SARS outbreak here in Toronto.
Ladies, your blogs are fantastic. Just think, ten years ago none of this was possible. Keep up the good work!

  6. Shannon says:

Awww…..you said the nicest things! Thank you! God, the pressure of choosing 7 blogs. This, of course, has me at distinct disadvantage as I haven’t been able to read blogs for a bit! Must think….

  7. Texasholly says:

Oh! I love lists like this. I totally agree on several, but I haven’t heard of the rest…so I am off to investigate.

  8. warsawmommy says:

Joy, Kassi, Mary, Shannon – The pleasure was absolutely all mine – now pay it forward to another deserving blogger and writer…

Neil – Yeah. Sorry about that. Hee! Well do I remember your awesomely well-written article about the SARS scare in Canada. I may have contributed – just a teeny tiny bit to it, as I recall – but maybe not. Ahem.

Kristin – It’s like an awards rain shower… just keep ‘em coming and I’ll keep up with my shout-outs ;)

Texasholly – Investigate away! Hopefully you find some cool new sites to enjoy.
